Wayfinding & Donor Recognition at Texas A&M’s McFerrin Plaza

Honoring Tradition Through Signage

Texas A&M University is steeped in history, pride, and tradition. Nowhere is that more evident than at McFerrin Plaza, a space designed to celebrate athletics, honor donors, and welcome fans. As part of the plaza’s development, signage played a vital role in creating a unified identity, one that would guide visitors, preserve tradition, and showcase the university’s bold spirit.

To bring this vision to life, Texas A&M partnered with Highpoint Signs & Apparel and trusted us to provide manufacturing support. The result was more than just wayfinding; it was a system of signage that embodied the university’s strength and character. Photos courtesy of Highpoint Signs & Apparel.

Honoring Pride and Emphasizing Function

The project required signage that could do more than simply direct foot traffic. Texas A&M required bold, durable signs that would reflect its iconic traditions, including its connection to the “Home of the 12th Man.” At the same time, McFerrin Plaza called for a donor recognition program that would honor supporters with dignity and permanence.

This dual-purpose Texas A&M wayfinding, combined with donor recognition signs, required the signage to balance functionality with deep symbolic meaning. Every element needed to fit within the university’s brand standards while standing the test of time.

Highpoint Signs & Apparel

Since 1995, Highpoint Signs & Apparel has been a trusted name in the Bryan College Station community, providing indoor and outdoor signage solutions. For McFerrin Plaza, they took the lead on manufacturing and installation while looking to us as a strategic partner.

Together, we collaborated from July 2024 to January 2025 to deliver a comprehensive range of dimensional signage solutions. From large-scale exterior signs to detailed interior components, this collaboration ensured that every piece matched Texas A&M’s performance needs and visual identity.

Design and Collaboration Process

At the start, Highpoint Signs & Apparel used our Partner Portal to quote and plan the scope of work. As the project expanded, we recommended involving our Large Project Team to help manage the process.

The partnership proved invaluable when unique challenges arose. One oversized Precision Plaque exceeded our manufacturing limits. We suggested to Highpoint to resize the plaque by a few inches to meet manufacturing capabilities. Highpoint then collaborated with Texas A&M, which approved the change, allowing the plaque to be produced without compromising design intent.

Key Gemini products included:

By combining these solutions, we delivered a cohesive system that met both aesthetic and functional needs.

A Cohesive Signage System

The final installation at McFerrin Plaza demonstrates how university signage can serve multiple purposes. The system features flat cut metal signs, precision plaques, and donor recognition signs that, together, create a bold yet practical environment.

For visitors, the Texas A&M wayfinding signage makes it simple to navigate the plaza and surrounding facilities. For donors and alumni, detailed recognition plaques celebrate contributions that sustain the university’s legacy. And for the broader campus community, the installations reflect pride, strength, and tradition in every dimension.

“Communication with Gemini was smooth and efficient throughout the project,” said Homer Acosta, Supply Chain Manager at Highpoint Signs & Apparel. “Thanks to their commitment to excellence and collaborative approach, Gemini played a key role in the successful completion of this project.”
